Earth Day Extravaganza!

For the second year in a row the Strathcona CPC partnered with the Vancouver Whitecaps on an Earth Day clean up event at Admiral Seymour Elementary School.

Under the umbrella of our CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) program, SCPC staff and volunteers put on this full day event for the students and teachers at the school.

The day began with a series of mini soccer workshops led by the Vancouver Whitecaps FC coaching staff. Every class in the school had a turn at this free workshop designed to introduce kids to soccer, or enhance their skills if they're already avid players. After lunch the SCPC led a community caring assembly that tough the kids the importance of respecting our community, our planet Earth and how we can all do our part by keeping it clean of litter. After the assembly the kids were paired up in groups with SCPC volunteers, Spike the mascot, and Whitecaps FC men's and women's first team players! The lucky groups did a full cleanup of their school grounds and the surrounding streets.

After the garbage was collected there were autograph sessions and the players and Spike stuck around for recess.
